About Us

Alfa Omega Foundation (YAO) is the fruit of the work of the Christian Evangelical Church in Timor (GMIT). Christian Evangelical Church in Timor was part of the "Indische Kerk" (Church of the Dutch East Indies) and became independent Chrurch, it began to build partnership with the reform Church in the Netherland, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches in Australia, and the Mennonite Church in the Unite States.

From Partnership with Mennonite Church in the USA, the Oenitu Training  Center (OTC) and Tarus Training Center (TTC) were establishet in 1957 and 1959. Both are essentially the same institution that  changed its name when  it moved to different location. This is a training center  that focus on providing technical and practical skil on Agriculture, Clean Water Fishery, Animal Husbandry, Black Smith and Carpentry. Its participants were coming from all over  the province. TTC continued to operate  until 1969 when Mennonite mission follows were pulled back to USE, at which time the synod of GMIT took over the operation of the institution, but changed its name "Pusat Latihan Kader Kemakmuran" (PLKK)/ Center for Prosperity Cadre Training (PLKK) and appointed Rev. Isakh Nikolas Frans as head of the Center.

Following its First General Service Guideline¹ and First General Service Policy Guidline², in the 1980's GMIT synod formed a Deaconia Commission³ for its community development service with the support of World Vision Indinesia (WVI) which at that time, was in need of a local partner for the implementation of its programs in East Nusa Tenggara Province, and Bureau of Church Development Fellowship of The Indonesia Churches Fellowship⁴  that were also very much interested to hold training  for Village  Development  Motivator.

In august 1983, the Deaconia Commission  and a number of people  from the Synod of GMIT discussed and finalize  the plan to change and upgrade the Center  for Prosperity  Cadre into an NGO. In First of March 1985, the foundation was established under the name of "Yayasan Pelayanan dan Pengembangan Masyarakat Alfa Omega" (YAO). in June  15, 1985, YAO's BYLAWS was for the first time published in the office Sivester Joseph Tjung Public Notary, and finaly in august 13, 1985 the Foundation  was successfully registered at the Kupang District Court Registrar. Rev. Isakh Nikolas Frans who at the time was the head of the Center for Prosperity Cadre Training, Appointed to be the first director of YAO.
